little update from from OSS - SAP has found the root cause and we have 2 outcomes:
* in the new SP9 this should not happen anymore (assume fixed by redesign rather than targeted fix).
* SAP will NOT release a specific hotfix to address this issue in 7.0.8.100, however, it may become part of nearest CDT hotfix. This is not guaranteed, nor ETA for the open CDT hotfix.
I am thinking of setting separate SP9 installation but if you are already getting to upgrade, you may check this (and share result 
).
Frankly, I am chasing more incidents on our 7.0.8.100 integrated with CRM and do not want to kill my test environment right now...
